What are the steps in the NH special education process?
The process includes referral, evaluation, determination of eligibility, development of the child’s individualized education program (IEP), determination of educational placement, and an annual review of the child’s IEP and placement.
What is the role of an administrator in special education?
The role of an administrator is that of a coordinator, the duties include managing special education programs, hiring and evaluating staff, ensuring compliance with IDEA laws, and meeting budget guidelines. The administrator needs strong leadership, interpersonal, and organizational skills to succeed in this job. They attend the IEP meetings.
Who is eligible for special education in NH?
To be eligible, your child must have a disability and require special education or special education and related services to benefit from education. Your child will then be identified with one or more of a specific disability type listed in the NH Rules Ed 1102.01(t).
What is the difference between a 504 plan and an IEP?
An IEP (Individualized Education Program) provides specialized instruction and related services for students with disabilities who need them to benefit from education, while a 504 plan offers accommodations and services to ensure equal access to education for students with disabilities who don’t require specialized instruction.
What are the disadvantages of a 504 plan?
- A 504 plan does not allow for specialized instruction as an IEP does.
- Although parental consent is required to evaluate the child for a 504 plan, there is no requirement for parental consent for the accommodations to be put in place.
- States do not receive extra funding for students with 504 plans.
